The Tortilla Press
I love my tortilla press! It's something that I have been wanting for the longest time, and finally, I have one. For me, buying a tortilla press was like buying a car. I couldn't just go on the internet and buy one, I had to do a lot of research. After speaking with more than 20 manufacturers', I had an idea of what I wanted, and then I bought it!
Remember: Some presses are made in Mexico, which are made from wood that has toxic chemicals in it. Others are made from low-grade wood that are hinged together incorrectly. The bottom line is, be cautious and research. If you're not 100% sold on buying the wood ones, there are metal and cast-iron ones available.
My personal experience and research with metal-plated ones are as follows:
* To much force and you will break the handle
* They slide on the counter, due to it's lightweight
* Teflon coated ones don’t hold up as long
My favorite ones are the wooden ones. These are built extremely well and can hold up to a lot of pressure. Most include a nut and swivel bolt layout and are treated with mineral oil. They are nice and solid, plus they will not slide. They will probably outlive you, and the best thing about them is that they make the best tortillas.
