What does non-GMO mean?
Non-GMO means = Non-Genetically Modified Organism.
These are organisms that have NOT been genetically modified in any way.
This is a non-profit that dedicates itself to providing consumers with the information they need in order to make better choices when buying food.
The non-GMO Project is a non-profit organization committed to preserving and building sources of non-GMO products, educating consumers, and providing Non-GMO Project Verified choices. This is North America's only third-party verification for products produced according to rigorous best practices for GMO avoidance.
Currently, over 80% of our food supply in the United States is GMO, meaning it is genetically modified in some way. GMOs are developed to withstand herbicide application, and/or to produce their own insecticide. The most common GMOs are corn, soybeans, canola, and sugar beets. To avoid eating GMOs and feeding them to your family, just look for the Non-GMO Project Verified seal on packaging, or look at the entire list at www.nongmoproject.org.
Personally, I look for this label when I shop. What really surprises me the most is that over 60 countries in the world restrict or have banned GMO crops. There is little to say about GMO food products, and there is a ton to say about non-GMO foods. So, the next time you're in the supermarket, look at your labels, and if it bears the seal below, you know that the product has met the non-GMO Project's Standard for GMO avoidance.
Important: There have been cases where companies will provide their own seal of assurance or tell you it's non-GMO. If you're ever in doubt about anything you put into your body, just call the companies like I do, plain and simple!
