I love beans, really, I do!
I am not talking about canned beans that have 300 mg of sodium per serving, either.
I am talking about the beans you buy in a bag and cook yourself.
There are so many varieties that it’s hard not to like just one. The nutritional value of beans is, out of this world.
The questions that are often asked of me are:
* Every time I eat beans, they give me gas, what can I do?
* Do I need to soak them overnight?
* Do all beans give you gas?
Every time I eat beans, they give me gas. What can I do?
A suggestion is to try and eat them on a regular basis and see if your body adjusts.
In my experience, my body has adjusted accordingly.
Do I need to soak them overnight?
Soaking your beans overnight (the type you buy in a bag) will reduce the Phytic Acid in the beans. Phytic Acid is a substance found in beans that can hinder mineral absorption if not soaked properly. You can add in 1 pinch of salt and 1 tsp. of apple cider vinegar which allows the beans to break down even further.
Do all beans give you gas?
Not all beans give me gas. The ones that do not or not as much are:
* Black
* Garbanzo
* Navy
* Lentil
* Kidney
* Red
When I first started to become vegan, someone told me this phrase below:
“The more you eat beans, the better your body will be able to digest them and use them more readily." Soaking your beans enhances the flavor giving them a more robust taste. Soak beans overnight for best results.
I would eat kidney, black, garbanzo, and white beans, and they all gave me gas, but once I started to eat them on a regular basis, my body adjusted. If you eat beans and they give you gas, try them on a regular basis for a few more weeks, and see if anything changes. Adjust and consume all food items according to your allergies and your allergies alone, not anyone else. This website is my experience through years of trial and error.
